Consignor Questions

What are your consignment terms? We sell your fine furnishings on consignment. You receive 45% of the sale price.
What furniture and décor items do you accept? We accept furniture and home décor, from private homes, model homes, Estate Sales, furniture retailers closeouts and design studios. Antiques, vintage and other mid-century furnishings are welcome. Items must meet the following criteria: Good quality, gently used/or new, great condition, odor free, clean, stain free, and free of animal hair. Free from any rips, tears and no broken frames. No water stains, deep gouges or major scratches on the primary finish, no broken or missing hardware. Doors and drawers must operate properly. Mechanical movements must operate properly. We love to sell your: Sofas, Sectionals, Loveseats & Settees Dining Tables & Chairs Occasional Chairs Chaise Lounges Buffets Dressers & Chests Complete Beds Bookshelves Nightstands & Side Tables, Consoles, Mirrors & Wall Art Table & Floor Lamps Home décor.
How do I consign my furniture with The Millionaire’s Daughter?

All FURNITURE items MUST be approved prior to delivery to the store.

You can submit a consignment request by simply sending us a photo of your furniture items Sell Your Furniture HERE.

We will evaluate whether it is something we think we can sell and respond to you via email. If you don’t have access to email or a digital camera, drop by our stores with a traditional photo.

Do I need an appointment to consign items?

We always suggest giving us a call before you bring your décor items here for consignment.

All décor items (accessories, lights, pictures, dishes, small items, etc.) that you wish to consign must be dropped off, during a consignment day, in a box or container labelled with your FIRST and LAST NAME along with a detailed itemized list.

Consignment Hours:

  • Monday 10 – 4
  • Tuesday 10 – 4
  • Wednesday 10 – 4
  • Saturday 11 – 3

When you bring in items for consignment at The Millionaire’s Daughter you have the option to wait while one of our staff members quickly goes through your boxes and returns any items to you that we feel we will not be able to sell.

If you are unable to wait while we go through your consignment you may be asked to pick up any unwanted consignments within 7 days of notification or your items will be donated to a local charity.

How do I prepare my items?

As you choose items to consign, ask yourself, “Would I buy it in its current condition?”.

If not, take a minute to dust, polish, clean or vacuum your item. We may not accept items that are not adequately prepared for sale.

All items for consignment must be clean and in prime condition; i.e. dirt, dust, and smoke free, not in need of any repair, and in good working order.

Do you buy items outright? No, here at The Millionaire’s Daughter EVERYTHING, yes we mean everything is on consignment.

Who sets the price?

The selling price of consigned items will be established by The Millionaire’s Daughter staff.

In determining the selling price of items, The Millionaire’s Daughter, will consider such factors as brand, age, condition, and market demand. As a general guideline, consignment pricing is approx. 1/3 of original pricing, although it could be higher or lower based on condition, style, age, marketability etc.

We are not an antique shop and do not make any claims to knowing the market value of your piece. We price our items on what we think our buyers will pay.

How long is the consignment period?

Consignment Term - 4 months

  • After 30 days - drops 10%
  • After 60 days - drops another 10%
  • After 90 days - will drop the 15% and stay at this last price for one month bringing the term to 4 months.

What if my items do not sell?

We have many clients who consign with us therefore it is up to the consignor to track dates and pick up unsold items following the contract period.

If you do not pick up your items by day 150, they become the property of The Millionaire’s Daughter and will be disposed of, sold at a reduced amount, or donated to a local charity.

Can I take back my item(s) if I change my mind?

Consigned items remain your property until sold.

If you wish to reclaim any unsold items before the sale period ends, you may do so, but there will be a holdback charge of 10% of the starting price.

What don’t you accept?

We may decline some of your items.

Please don’t take this personally as we consider many variables in determining what we can accept.  Experience has shown what will and won’t sell.

Items we do not accept:

  • Collector plates, Knick Knacks, souvenir items and photo frames Dishes and glassware must be in sets of at least 4 or more… we will not accept one wine glass or a single mug, for example.
  • Artwork: no metal or plastic framed art, pastel tone artwork, dated florals, botanical prints, faded pictures/
  • Well-loved linens for bed, kitchen & dining rooms Used/ faded window treatments, curtains or rods Any item made with particle board, laminate, veneer, or similar material or furniture that has been self-assembled (IKEA) Household electrical appliances.
  • Everyday glassware, mugs, dishes Kitchenware items such as pots, pans, utensils, everyday silverware Pull out couches and mattresses, cribs and baby toys, pool tables, pianos TV entertainment cabinets Any items that are missing pieces such as doors, drawers, legs, lampshades, or are not working functionally will not be accepted. All items must be attractive in new, like-new, or excellent condition and be smoke, pet, odor, and damage free.
  • Upholstered pieces must be in perfect, clean condition. Lamps must be in working order, have all hardware and up-to-date safe wiring and a lampshade.
  • All crystal, pottery and ceramics must be free from cracks and chips. Artwork and mirrors must be free from water damage and have a hook or wire allowing items to be hung.

We are extremely picky about the linens, accent pillows and rugs that we accept. They must be new or in like-new condition.

Can you pick up furniture from my home?

We offer pick up service, our delivery teams are sub-contracted and you will be expected to pay them directly at the time of pick-up.

We do not quote for pick up this will be discussed between you and the pick up company. The Millionaire’s Daughter is exempt from responsibility for damages of any kind, due to deliveries with any mover and/or delivery company.

If you bring your furniture in yourself, please note, for insurance reasons, our staff is not allowed to assist with furniture or heavy box transportation.

You must have assistance for all pickups and deliveries to and from your vehicle.

I’m looking to sell a lot of furniture, can you help?

Yes we can!

We offer a home visit service where one of our team members will meet you at your home to preview your furniture items.

Home visits are reserved for clients who are interested in consignor 15 or more furniture items.

Which charities do you donate unsold merchandise to?

We donate to Habitat for Humanity in Aurora, the Grimbsy Benevolent Society, and Habitat for Humanity Restore in Burlington at our Oakville location.
 

What happens when my item(s) sell?

Cheques are always ready to be picked up a the stores on or after the 15th of the month following the month the item is sold.

Unclaimed, lost, or stale-dated cheques will not be re-issued.

We do not call you to tell you your cheque is ready. If you request cheques to be mailed we ask that you supply stamped and addressed envelopes.

Cheques will not be re-issued if lost in the mail or stale-dated.

 How often does inventory change?

The Millionaire’s Daughter inventory changes daily! We only keep inventory in our stores for 150 days (5 months) but most of our furniture sells within the first 60 days. We add an average of 40 new items into inventory everyday.

What kinds of furniture am I likely to find at The Millionaire’s Daughter? We accept furniture and home décor, from private homes, model homes, Estate Sales, furniture retailers closeouts and design studios. Antiques, vintage and other mid-century furnishings are welcome.
When do items get marked down in price?

After 30 days the item sale price is reduced by 10%

After 60 days the item is further reduced by 10%

Finally after 90 days the price drops by 15% and stay at this last price for one month bringing the term to 4 months.

Will you adjust the price of an item because of a flawed condition? The condition of the item is taken into consideration when it is priced, as noted on our price tags as “Condition Noted”.
Can I put an item on hold?

Any item(s) can be put on hold for a 24 hour period.

Customers are welcome to phone one of our stores to place a hold if you spot
your fabulous find online!

Holds only last for 24 hours! Tik Tok, time to measure and decide if this piece is right for you!

Please call or visit a location to purchase the item on hold within 24 hour period. As a courtesy we will try and give you a call before the hold expires!

What is your return policy?

All items are sold as-is, and we do not accept returns.

All sales are final.

If I purchase a piece of furniture, how long can you I keep it here before I have to take possession of it?

Due to the large volume of furniture coming through The Millionaire’s Daughter stores, we can only keep purchases here for 1 week (seven (7) days from the day purchased).
Can the furniture I purchase be delivered to my home?

We offer delivery service.

Our delivery teams are sub-contracted and you will be expected to pay them directly at the time of delivery.

We do not quote for deliveries this will be discussed between you and the delivery company.

The Millionaire’s Daughter is exempt from responsibility for damages of any kind, due to deliveries with any mover and/or delivery company.

Can I purchase from one location and have it transferred to a different location for pick up?

Items purchases over the phone via Visa or Mastercard can be transferred to a different location of The Millionaire’s Daughter for pick up, there is a cost.

Will you provide assistance to load merchandise?

You must have assistance for all pickups and deliveries to and from your vehicle.

For insurance reasons, our staff is not allowed to assist with furniture or heavy box transportation.

Please bring your own padding, packing materials, rope or tie-downs.

Do you have gift certificates?

Yes! Ask one of our friendly sales associate for details.
